Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2016 #GGKCRAFTYPAD
What is #GGKCRAFTYPAD? It's a monthly photo a day challenge. The hashtag stands for Geeky Girls Knit Crafty Photo A Day challenge. We give you a prompt, you take a photo and share it. Most of our prompts tend to be related to craftiness but we've done others as well. For example, the February prompts list was themed alphabet soup using a different letter of the alphabet for each day. March's prompts list is colour themed.
What's a crafty selfie? It's a picture of yourself (with others or by yourself) doing something crafty. Maybe it's showing off a recent handknit. Or enabling us with your latest yarn purchase. Or having a wee break to knit before you start shopping again. However you want to interpret crafty selfie is fine by us, just convince us. :) (and we're pretty easy to convince!)
So, how do you participate???? Simply take your photo and post it to Instagram with the hashtags #GGKEYF16craftyselfie #GGKCraftyPAD and #EYF2016. By adding the hashtags, others who are participating will be able to see the pictures that have been shared for the prompt. C.C. is on Instagram as cc_almon & Dami is on Instagram as d_isabitgroovy so make sure to follow them if you haven't already.
PRIZES - So what about these prizes? We will utilise a random number generator to select winners who have posted on Instagram a picture that matches the theme and who have tagged the picture with the tags #GGKEYF16craftyselfie #GGKCRAFTYPAD and #EYF2016. If your photo is selected, C.C. will comment on your photo asking you to contact her via Ravelry so she can get your prize to you.
We'll be in the Podcast Lounge as well as in the JavaPurl Designs / KnitRunDig booth, so come by and say hi! Can't wait to see your photos!
And we'd love for you to participate in the rest of the month of March if you want to. You can find the March prompts list here: here.
Happy Knitting!
March 2016 Crafty Photo A Day Challenge
We're playing with colours in this month's edition of #GGKCraftyPAD! AND we have a special Edinburgh Yarn Festival collaboration on 18-March and 19-March. Find out more about it here.
So, how can you participate???? Well, there are actually several ways:
INSTAGRAM - Instagram is the primary arena for participating in this challenge. Simply take your photo, add a caption to it, tag it with the hashtag #GGKCraftyPAD and share it. By adding the hashtag #GGKCraftyPAD , others who are participating will be able to see the pictures that have been shared for the daily prompts. C.C. is on Instagram as cc_almon & Dami is on Instagram as d_isabitgroovy so make sure to follow them if you haven't already.
TWITTER - You can also share on Twitter by taking a photo and uploading it to Twitter along with the hashtag #GGKCraftyPAD . Follow us on Twitter as cc_almon and d_isabitgroovy.
FACEBOOK - Feel free to share with your friends on your own Facebook profile page or on our Facebook page.
OTHER PLACES - Feel free to share your photos other places like your own blog, Ravelry, Tumblr, Flickr, etc. Be creative and then tell us about it! :-)
How will you remember what the daily prompts are???? Again, there are several ways:
~Save the image above to your phone or your computer and check it daily. Maybe even make it your wallpaper.
~Bookmark this post in your web browser and come back daily for the next prompt.
~Save this monthly Google Calendar as a bookmark in your web browser or even add the Google Calendar to your own Google Calendars.
~Follow us on Instagram as cc_almon, on Instagram as d_isabitgroovy and/or on Twitter as cc_almon and on Twitter as d_isabitgroovy as we'll be posting the prompt for that day at some point during the day.
Most of all, we just want to encourage you to be creative. We hope this is as fun for yall as it is for us!!! Can't wait to see your photos!
And don't forget, each week, we will choose our 5 favorite photos from Instagram and they will be shared in the podcast and show notes for the podcast following that prompt. There are so many great photos and we can't pick all of them, but we love looking at everyone's!
Until next time,
Happy Knitting!

Ask the Geeky Girls -
Lauren (Lbeth21) from New York asks:
CC - I have been wondering for awhile - how do you get your inspiration for your designs? I know a lot recently have come from Dr. Who, but your new coffee design themes and any others - what gives you your inspiration? Recently I have thought a lot more about designing something but a bit overwhelmed on where to start. Was curious about your inspiration and process. Thanks!
